My three favorite front-engined designs of all time are the Maserati Ghibli, Ferrari 365 GTB/4, and the 1968-9 Chevrolet Corvette. Of those three, the Maserati is likely my top pick and the Corvette is the one I am most likely to actually afford. What’s your favorite front-engined classic?

As I am a quirky fan of Italian, French and Japanese metal....without pics: Citroën Traction Avant, Citroën HY van, Citroën DS, FIAT 124 Spider, FIAT 128 (especially the Rallye models!), Peugeot 304, Peugeot 504

The Citroën 2CV...because, other than rust, they are indestructable!

Kinja'd!!!

Polski FIAT 125P

Kinja'd!!!

Autobianchi A112 (even the non-Abarth model! :))

Kinja'd!!!

FIAT 127, a pretty sprightly performer, even today considering it was intended to just be a little family hatchback!

Kinja'd!!!

The Lancia Fulvia...because Lancia Fulvia.

Kinja'd!!!

1971-1974 Honda Life Touring (The ‘Touring’ trim was a little more sporty and with a lot of blacked out trim! :P)

Kinja'd!!!

Peugeot 204 (especially with the blacked out grill and gold Lion emblem!)

Kinja'd!!!

Isuzu Bellett - very pretty design to my taste, and they can be pretty nice performers too! :)

Kinja'd!!!

I better stop there :P

There are a few.

Lancia Flaminia, specifically the Pininfarina designed versions.

Kinja'd!!!

Peugeot 404 (basically the same but more dailyable)

Kinja'd!!!

Fiat 130 Coupe (basically the same but newer)

Kinja'd!!!

Jag Mark X with Turner 4.5 Hemi swap (not basically the same but maximum british V8-ness)

Kinja'd!!!

Plus some more that rank very high up.

Note the thin pillars of cars unencumbered by safety regs. Note too the visual clue at the front of the Espada as to how many cylinders it has.

You named my fave. The Ferrari 365 GTB4, which to this day is the priciest car I’ve ever had the pleasure to wrench on. I was 19 and the owner was one of my dads friends. I worked at a Mercury dealership at the time while I was getting through college so he knew I could find my way around an engine. In exchange for a box of Triumph TR3 and TR4 parts I had to change the oil , plugs and air filter as well as reman a pair Weber sidedrafts for a coachwork Abarth 1100c with a birdcage type chassis. I took him up on it and spent a full day of working on both cars with no regard for the time involved.

How do you change those twin upside-down oil filters on the Daytona without spilling?

Its been a few decades but I think we had two shop blankets as well as fender covers. I do remember the sumps draining while we each did a bank of plugs and then carefully removing the filters with a shop blanket under them and a towel or rag to catch drips. We must have done a decent job because I don’t recall having to do much cleanup.

Even cooler was the owner Ray Stautenburg. If you Google his name you will find him racing in a few Daytona 24 hrs , pictures of him in the early days at VIR and other neat stuff. Both he and my father fueled my growing car addiction. Ray also had a Dino, several Opels, 60's Mini Cooper S and a Lola. He had factory raced in the US and Europe during the 60's and 70's for about 5 manufacturers. My dad and he passed away about the same time some 10+ yrs ago. I learned a ton from both men.
